What is a Bail Bond?

When a person is arrested and accused of committing a criminal offense, the suspect will be taken into custody and booked into jail. Once in jail, the defendant will held awaiting trial unless he or she is released on bail.

A “Bail Bond” is a written undertaking entered into by the defendant and a Bail Bonding Company guaranteeing the defendants appearance before a court or magistrate to answer a criminal accusation.

The amount of bail required by the court is not preset by any schedule. It can vary greatly depending on the degree of offense for which the accused is being held.
